Critical weeks at gas stations: it will be almost impossible to refuel at Balaton
According to Eszter Bujdos, managing director of holtankoljak.hu, the next week or two will be critical at gas stations. She believes that it will be almost impossible to refuel at Balaton.
The fuel expert spoke about the fuel purchase rules in Hungary in the morning show of rtl.
The change of rules regarding the price cap was expected
Four days ago, the goverment introduced new rules regarding the fuel price cap. From now on, only privately-owned cars, taxis and farm machinery, tractors can purchase fuel for the capped price (480 HUF per litre = 1.19 EUR per litre). Eszter Bujdos thinks some kind of solution was needed. Within the profession, everbody would recommend the complete cancellation of the price caps. The expert said she expected the change of rules regarding the price cap. In the last few weeks, Hungarians experienced fuel shortages at gas stations. Therefore, the government did not have any other choice but to withdraw the discounted price from non-private vehicles. As we have written about it before, the MOL president also expressed his opinion. He said that gambling with the price cap will lead to fuel shortages in Hungary.
The biggest maintenance in the history of Mol is about to begin
In August, the biggest maintenance in the history of Mol begins, reports 24.hu. It will last for two months and thousands of people will work on it. They are trying to replace the lost quantity by supplying the gas stations from the Hungarian strategic stock during this period. However, the smaller gas stations will not receive anything from this stock. According to Eszter Bujdos, many gas stations will again have to cover wages and overhead costs from their own pockets.

The next few weeks will be critical at gas stations
Because of the fuel shortages at gas stations, the next few weeks will be critical. In the following days, it is almost certain that people will not be able to refuel at Lake Balaton. As there is a large fuel shortage due to tourists, many people go to Veszprém to refuel. The situation would stabilise if the importers were interested in selling again and they would bring in fuel.
